It has been over five years since the Algiers Peace Agreement between Eritrea and Ethiopia was signed.

Furthermore, three and a half years have elapsed since the Eritrea – Ethiopia Border Commission (EEBC) delivered its final and binding verdict.

However, the Ethiopian government, in a manifest violation of the tenets of the Algiers Agreement, has thwarted the implementation of the EEBC decision by withholding its cooperation with the commission for the full demarcation of the border.

Ethiopia’s unlawful posturing puts the peace and security of the Horn of Africa in jeopardy.

We urge the international community to fulfil its treaty obligations and take proper and decisive measure against Ethiopia according to Chapter VII of the U.N. Charter.

We also urge the European Union, based on the relevant principles of the Cotonou Agreement, to take strict and fitting measures in order to prevent yet another destructive war between Eritrea and Ethiopia.

On 24-10-2005 between 12:00 and 16:00, we the undersigned, members of the Eritrean Community in Europe, have staged this peace rally in Strasbourg to call on the international community in general and the European Union in particular, to fulfil their respective duties as guarantors of the Algiers Peace Agreement and ensure the dawn of peace between Eritrea Ethiopia.
