Members of Action Group
for Eritrea (AGE) paid a visit to the Foreign and Commonwealth last week. The
visit was in regards to the Eritrea Ethiopia Border Commission's (EEBC) decision
that was released in April 2002 but five years on, still remains unimplemented
due to Ethiopia’s intransigence. Recalling that the Eritrean government has
fully and unconditionally accepted the final and binding verdict, AGE is
determined to impress upon the United Kingdom government to do its utmost to
pressure Ethiopia to accept it without any conditions and make
provisions for it complete implementation.
As part of AGE’s
continuous action to this effect, our members also met with a Member of the British
Parliament and discussed at length the border situation. The discussion touched
upon all aspects including the role the British Government can play in ensuring
that the EEBC decision is fully implemented.
Noting that only the
categorical implementation of the EEBC ruling can usher peace between Eritrea
and Ethiopia, AGE has further plans to meet with relevant individuals and
groups that can help in its unremitting peace campaign.
During their visit, AGE
also had a chance to talk to the media who happened to be outside the FCO to
report the hostage situation in Ethiopia. As well as emphasising the fallacy of
the Ethiopian claim that Eritrea was responsible for the kidnapping, AGE was
also able to discuss the border situation between Eritrea and Ethiopia with the
media.
