Happy Birth Day Eritrea – remember the heroism of our martyrs

After 30 years of armed struggle for independence, the modern state of Eritrea was born and more importantly for the first time in modern African history a country in Africa was able to liberate itself. After a long and committed political and armed struggle, the Eritrean people were able to defeat the enemy and claim our nationhood in 1991.   It is a day of our self-importance and a day of paying tribute to our fallen heroes. It indeed should be a day of cheerfulness, and will remains to be a day of our pride. On May 24, 1991, Africa saw the first liberation of an African country in the 20th Century.

Eritrean people have much reason to celebrate MAY 24, for the heroism of fallen heroes, and unity of our people, and the incredible development achievements made. We should continue to build our unity and our nation. Our nation building process does not only guarantee Eritrea's potential for full economic expansion and higher standard of living, but it also assurance our sovereignty. September 1, 1961 signifies the day when the first Eritrean hero fired the first bullet to oppose the occupation, and May 24, 1991 re-claims the nation independence, which has been denied for decade.

Looking to the many trials we have faced as a country, these times are as challenging as ever and we must take time to celebrate May 24, and more importantly is how much we guard our achievements.  As a people, this independence day held so deep in our hearts and we must be preparing for any eventuality. Victory is ours as we stick to our principles and values and the glory of our martyrs will never diminish. We would not have the freedom that we hold so very dear to us, without the courage and bravery of those who gave their life. Congratulations to all of us, this day have a special meaning for the fallen heroes, and happy birthday Eritrea!
